The theme that I’m focusing on is “opiate addictions can occur quickly” because people can take medication for a totally different reason and become addicted to it before they know it. It's something that happens quickly before anybody can process what's happening. In the documentary it states, “Most first-time abusers of painkillers obtain them from a friend or relative.” (the most addictive drug). This shows how easy it is to become addicted before you can easily access it from friends or family, and you wouldn’t think anything of it. It's only when you have the temptation to try the drugs again that you realize it's a problem. Another example is Sarah who started to become addicted to opiates after taking them when she got into an automobile accident. (Discussion Guide).
Another theme that I chose is “Common Death”. Sadly, when it comes to drug addictions, also comes a lot of death. An example is Katrina whose daughter had an overdose and sadly passed away. (Death). What made it worse was at the funeral all the kids who knew the daughter were high. So, it goes to show that addicts don’t fear death. You would think seeing someone who is addicted to the same drug as you die would be enough to bring you back to reality, but this proves that it's false.
